Steps
- Web: go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in. Phone, tablet or computer: in HBO Max, choose your profile, then Subscription. TV: choose the Settings icon, then Subscription.
- Find who your subscription is billed through (top of the screen).
- Follow the cancel steps for that biller. Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions.
Notice period
HBO Max says some billing providers require you to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing period starts.
Refunds and fees
Not stated on the page we read. If you were charged after cancelling, HBO Max lists causes: cancelling too close to renewal, a still-active subscription, or more than one account.
If you pay through an app store or another company
- Billed by an app store (e.g. Apple or Google)? Cancel there or contact that store's support, per HBO Max.
- Apple (iPhone/iPad): Settings → your name → Subscriptions → the subscription → Cancel Subscription. If there's no Cancel button, it's already cancelled (Apple Support).
- Google Play: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → the subscription → Cancel subscription. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel.
